«I is another» – Rimbaud in Africa to Tokyo
Grusomhetens Teater is proud to announce that it´s most recent production, «I is another» – Rimbaud in Africa, written & directed by Lars Øyno, has been invited to perform at Theater Xcai in Tokyo this 28 September – 1 October 2017.
The company´s 26th production is inspired by the latter half of the life of Arthur Rimbaud (1854-91), when the French poet left the artistic circles of Paris to become a trader of coffee and firearms in Ethiopia. The production received its world premiere on 26 January 2017, at Grusomhetens Teater´s newly-renovated theatrical space at Hausmania.
This engagement with Theater Xcai marks the company´s 3rd engagement in Japan at this venue, following their premieres of Grusomhetens Teater´s two Ibsen productions: Fjeldfuglen (2015) and Svanhild (2016). Misako Ueda, Theater Xcai´s Artistic Director, expressed her interest in Rimbaud in Africa in autumn 2016 before rehearsals even began on the new original work. She and her colleague came to Norway for the final performance of its run in February 2017, confirming the company´s return to Japan.
