Physical Theater Training:
How to be an “actor technician of his/her emotions” such as Antonin Artaud (1896-1948) dreamt it? How to feel your way of acting as a whole, by amplifying your presence on stage without dividing the thinking and its embodiment?
A practical experience through different exercises and approaches inspired by Odin Teatret, Grotowski, butoh and others.
Conference:
In 2019, Antonin Artaud’s work and writings are in the public domain, an event that constitutes a new era for the exploration of its influence.
From the performing arts and philosophy to politics, this conference aims to be an intercultural and transdisciplinary inventory of Artaud’s influence spanning from France to Latin America.

About the instructors:
Théophile Choquet is a French actor and researcher. He started is artistic education at the age of 5, at Metz (east of France). Graduated from two conservatories (Metz and Strasbourg), with a high school degree in theatre and a Master degree at Sorbonne University in Paris. Through his formation, he worked on all kind of plays’s repertories. Director and interpret of solo performances, he is regularly invited by several french and international festivals and cultural institutions, such as Teatro de Arena of São Paulo (Brazil), or French Institute of Mannheim (Germany) , in 2018. His artistic path is grounded by international experiences (Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Germany, Danemark, Spain, Italy…) and by the work with masters of theatre and dance : Eugenio Barba, Roberta Carreri, Natsu Nakajima, Maura Baiocchi, Christian Rist. Théophile Choquet’s work is also nourished by butoh dance (Japan) and performance art. Since 2014 he is a regular collaborator of the Taanteatro company, based in São Paulo, Brazil, producing their artistic work in Paris. For several years he dedicates a whole part of his activity to the public reading (poetry recitals, musical readings…). He wills to bring out theatre works out of their habitual places, performing in various sites : churches, gardens, appartments, art galleries, libraries, convents, retirement homes… Since 2016, and the selection to participate to the International School of Theatre Anthropology (ISTA) created by Eugenio Barba, in Italy, he regularly works with Odin Teatret company, and through the world with the Third Theatre Network. Recently, he has been invited to perform with the Orchestra of Normandie, and at the Sorbonne Library. His current performances include a collaboration with Opéra National du Rhin, in Strasbourg, and a public reading at Irish Cultural Center in Paris. Théophile Choquet is a member of the Association Rodez Antonin Artaud.
Lucas Duran, director and physical theatre coach, began in 2016 a bachelor in Theatrical Studies at National University in Cordoba (second city of Argentina). He is currently in the fourth year of his university course. Through a work focused on staging and daily training for the actor, his artistic practice and his research are influenced by theatrical anthropology (concept developed by Eugenio Barba). In 2017, he participated in the artistic residence of The Bridge of Winds, under the direction of Iben Nagel Rasmussen (Odin Teatret), an experience that modified and orientated his work on physical theater and actor training. In 2018 he began his work as director and “training director” for different theater groups, an activity which he continues and develops day after day. The same year, he participated in the tour of French actor Théophile Choquet in Latin America, working in Cordoba and Mendoza with actors a form of physical theater in connection with the writings of Antonin Artaud. In january 2020, the physical theatre workshop « The Athlete Affective » has been launched in various theatre in Paris, France, and in Holstebro, the site of Odin Teatret in Danemark.

Participant registration is binding. When you are granted a course attendance, the course fee must be paid by the 14.02.2020.
All applicants will receive feedback shortly after the application deadline. If you have been allocated space on the course but choose not to participate without informing us at least one week before the start of the course, the participation fee will not be refunded.
