“Svanhild” spilles i Tokyo 22-26 September
Svanhild, the 1860 manuscript by Henrik Ibsen which received its world premiere in 2014 by Grusomhetens Teater under the direction of Lars Øyno, will be playing in Tokyo, Japan during 22-26 September 2016 at Theater Xcai. This tour will feature performances by Odille Anette Heftye Blehr, Hanne Dieserud, Sara Fellman, Gisle Haas, Kirsti Sørlie Hansen, Brendan McCall, Filip Stav, Miguel Emilio Dobrodenka Steinsland, Espen Wensaas, and Johanna Øyno. Lighting by Jan Skomakerstuen, Costumes by Gjøril Bjercke Sæther, Scenography by Tormod Lindgren, Original Music by Filip Sande, and Produced by Brendan McCall.
Winner of the 2014 Oslo Prize for Best Performance, Svanhild has also appeared at Nationaltheatret´s International Ibsen Festival, Den Norske Opera, and Teater Ibsen (Skien) in Norway; and performed as part of the Platonov International Arts Festival (Russia) in June 2016. These performances of Svanhild mark this production´s first appearance in Asia.
This is Grusomhetens Teater´s second time performing in Tokyo at Theater Xcai. The company went to Japan for the first time in October 2015 with 3 performances of Fjeldfuglen, Ibsen´s unfinished 1859 opera libretto which also received its world premiere under Øyno´s direction, in 2009.
In addition to these 5 performances of Svanhild, company members from Grusomhetens Teater will offer public workshops in physical theater to professional actors, dancers, and butoh performers within the Japanese community on 23 September (with Lars Øyno) and 26 September (with Hanne Dieserud).
