| The Theatre of Cruelty's ideology is embedded in the visions of the French surrealist poet Antonin Artaud, and has thus it's artistic expression within the physical rather than the intellectual arena. It's dramatic medium is the human body - the flux and flow of it's movements, it's sounds and silences, it's discords and harmonies - in short, the anatomy of emotion - -innate to us all, but tamed and forgotten by the forces of society. It is the company's aim to lead the audience back to this forgotten land of organic form, and as such, even when a performance is founded on a traditional dramatic work of art or literary text, the language which is it's usual scaffolding and support will be subordinate, and will often disappear altogether. Founder and artistic director for The Theatre of Cruelty is actor Lars Øyno. |
