5th of July at Theater Xcai in Tokyo

On the 5th of July, “Lament II” will be presented at the 13th Theater X International Dance + Theater Festival (IDTF) 2018 in Tokyo, Japan at Theater Xcai シアターX. With Hanne DieserudSara Fellman and Mika Hibiki. Directed by Lars Øyno, costumes by Gjøril Bjercke Sæther and light design by Jan Skomakerstuen. The premiere of “Lament II” took place on the 20th of February at Grusomhetens Teater’s stage.

The performance is only 50 minutes long and is as much dance as theater. Itis a highly physical demanding performance, where the body of the actors becomes the tool. Our theater aims to realize the body and break the boundaries of the Western modern society. The play has no action in the ordinary sense. It is not based on any manuscript nor has a dialogue that seeks to reproduce reality. There is music which is composed by the voices and movements of the actors, and the set design is created by light patterns projected on the walls.

Grusomhetens Teater inspired by the Japanese tradition shared by Mika Hibiki during the creative process, presents a different aesthetic approach towards our work. A composition of two tradition, the Western and Eastern, that express the universal expression of grief, the Earth’s cry; -the cry of human’s existence, which is kept inside and hidden because of the rigid restrictions of our civilization.
